Planning Study For Project Manager Training...
Project Management has a place in all areas of industry. If you're looking to find out more about training courses to join this industry, you will see how diverse the roles can be. People who have good logic skills and a strong sense of order can do very well in this type of work. However, good communication and leadership skills are also a benefit as PM involves a great deal of interaction with other people.
...Smoothly And Efficiently!
For businesses to be profitable margins are often tight, hence controlled project management is often essential. When a plan involves different but inter-dependent things happening at different times and in different places, it must be project managed all the way. Project management work today is very highly respected and can command an excellent salary. Why not learn the skills of effective project control and build a worthy career for yourself?
Certifications can be attained through professional associations, usually via commercial colleges. You'll be taught about project planning, lifecycles, initiating executing and completing a project, time management, scheduling, budgeting and cost control and people management among other things.
Basic Concepts
Project Management has a good deal of terminology that students need to comprehend. To gain an awareness of how projects differ from standard work activities, you'll need to recognise PM terms and techniques and their applications. Do some research of your own to discover the different approaches used by Project Managers, and the various training routes that will prepare students for work.
An Old And Revered Profession
Even in ancient times, project management was used as a tool for controlling resources and the workforce - though motivational techniques would have differed greatly! Until the turn of the twentieth century, large civil engineering projects would have been managed by the design architects and engineers themselves. In the early twentieth century, an American engineer called Henry Gantt produced his famous project management tool the Gantt Chart.
Around the same time the French engineer Henri Fayol developed 'Fayolism' - functions and principles for management. The Gantt Chart was considered to be revolutionary when it was first introduced. Essentially a type of bar chart, it illustrates a project schedule which can show the start and finish dates of every element of a project and even the dependency relationships between activities.
The Beginnings Of PM As We Know It Today
Project Management as defined by today's standards started to unfold around the middle of the 20th century, as a more systemised approach came into play. The US Navy started on the project to build the Polaris Missile, and it became apparent that more sophisticated planning structures would need to be implemented. The PERT technique, developed by Booz-Allen & Hamilton was the answer. This and other mathematical techniques such as the Critical Path Method (CPM) started to spread. At the same time, technology was being developed in other areas, which led to the formation of the American Association of Cost Engineers.
The IMPA
Under the original name 'International Management Systems Association', the renamed International Project Management Association was established in the sixties. Over forty thousand people are now members of this Swiss registered alliance. Member associations promote project management and provide information about trends and developments.
PMI
In 1969 the Project Management Institute was created in America to advance state-of-the-art project management. The 'Project Management Body of Knowledge' from PMI is now an internationally recognised standard in the industry. It endeavours to provide standard fundamentals of PM that are applicable in the majority of cases. Any student of project management should understand the processes and terminology that are featured in this guide. Specialist colleges provide training on each of the processes covered in the guide. You will be in a position at the end of such a course to take the world standard PM exams, which come under the headings of Project Management Professional and Certified Associate of Project Management.
PRINCE2:2009
'Projects in Controlled Environments' (now version 2) is used extensively in PM, although it was initially designed purely for the management of IT projects. PRINCE2 2009 describes forty different activities that can be organised into seven processes.
It has recently been updated to the 2009 version, so students of PRINCE2 will learn the latest techniques of this framework model. PRINCE2 is designed to reduce the impact when change is necessary in the commercial environment. It promotes consistency and re-usable assets. It's very specific, efficient and manageable.
There are various other training programmes and qualifications that can be attained through the professional associations.
Look for training that handles both the leadership and personnel skills as well as the mathematical and logistical elements. Take time to go through all the training options available to you.
